Our Spring Break Fashion Checklist

Essentials for a Spring Capsule Wardrobe

The sun is shining, birds are singing, temperatures are climbing—all signs point toward spring and that means one thing: spring break! If there’s a tropical getaway in your future this season, a new warm weather wardrobe is likely on your mind. With poolside afternoons and fruity cocktails on the horizon, we’ve created our essential packing list for a spectacular spring break.

The Perfect Carry-On: No one likes to start out their vacation by jamming their clothes into a too-small overnight bag, or being forced to gate check that oversized roll-aboard before you even make it onto the plane. Successful packing starts with the right luggage! Double-check those TSA carry-on measurements when selecting your spring break bag, then try rolling your clothes instead of folding them to maximize space and minimize wrinkles. It’s also a good idea to invest in some smaller pouches to keep odds and ends organized. Pack your day-of travel essentials (like your wallet, passport, tablet, and toiletries) in a colorful tote that can double as a beach bag once you reach your destination.

Comfy Travel Clothes: Along with the perfect bag, you’ll need a simple yet stylish outfit to get you from point A to point B. We recommend starting with some comfortable leggings, then skipping that bulky jacket (which you won’t need in warm weather destinations) in favor of multi-functional layers. Pair a simple tank top with a soft cardigan that you can tuck into your bag once you enter balmy temperatures, plus an oversized scarf that can double as a blanket on chilly planes or during long layovers.

A Killer Swimsuit: Once you’ve made it to your destination, you’ll be ready to hit the pool ASAP. That means you’ll need a fresh swimsuit (or two) to make the most of your sunny afternoons. This year’s hottest swim trends include neon hues, eye-catching animal prints, and feminine embroidery. When you’re headed to the beach or pool, don’t forget to toss a pair of shades and a hat into your bag so you can catch up on a good book (or catch an afternoon nap) in style.

Go-Anywhere Shorts: When you’re feeling ready to venture away from the pool, you’ll need some chic yet comfy outfits for daytime adventures. Whether you’re exploring the ancient ruins of Mexico or heading downtown in Miami for lunch and shopping, a pair of shorts with a few sweet details fits the bill perfectly. This spring, we’re loving retro-inspired styles with high-waisted silhouettes, little touches of lace, and colorful floral prints. You can also never go wrong with a classic pair of denim cutoffs! Pack a few tank tops or tees in solid hues that match your shorts for daytime looks that are ready for anything.

Breezy Sundresses: A light and airy sundress is the most important multi-tasker in your spring break wardrobe; it can serve as a cover-up on your way to the beach, add a little style to your daytime look when shorts don’t suit the occasion, and carry you through casual dinners, too. Spring break is all about relaxation, so we love sundresses made from soft fabrics with swingy silhouettes. Don’t shy away from color when picking out your dresses—a tropical vacation is the perfect time to embrace bright hues!

Night Out Necessities: After a day of fun in the sun, spring break calls for a night on the town! If your vacation plans include hitting the bar with your besties, you’ll need a few looks that can turn heads from Tampa to Tulum. Show off your shape in a sleek bodycon dress, or embrace a fashion-forward look with a chic jumpsuit. Just add some sparkling jewelry and a pair of killer heels, and you’re ready to dance the night away.

Chic Sandals: Last but not least on our spring break packing list: a new pair of sandals to show off that fresh pedicure! For daytime wear, this year’s hottest sandal trends include plenty of comfy options, like slides with statement embellishments and outdoorsy pairs inspired by old-school Tevas. Lots of designers also showed off sky-high sandals accessorized with beachy accents—think tiny seashell charms, fishnet cutouts, and nautical color combinations—for Spring 2019. We’re planning to bring one of each to round out the perfect spring break wardrobe!
