Trend Report: 8 Looks You’ll See in Spring 2018

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the hottest styles of spring 2018 have already been revealed on the designer runways. Now, it’s only a matter of time until we see these themes rocking the streets. With over a dozen new fads (and some you’ve seen before) popping up, we’re going to share with you our top 8 we’re most eager to see, buy and wear.

1. Americana

Red, white, blue, stars, or stripes—you name it, and spring of 2018 is going to flaunt it. Subtly add patriotic pieces to your inventory with blue pinstripes, star prints and all things preppy. Or truly embrace this trend with multicolored fringe, nautical motifs, light-washed denim, starry accessories, and tops that feature all three hues. We see this trend extending through the summer months as well.

2. Japanese-Inspired Embellishments

When designers find inspiration from world travel, the result is a beautifully diverse range of styles. This season, the elegant silhouettes and vibrant hues of Japan have made their return to the runway. Fashion knows no borders and this upcoming sunny-day is no exception. This year, keep an eye out for kimono-like, longline tops and jackets, mandarin collars, delicate floral prints and lots of red.

3. Anoraks

If you don’t know what an anorak even is, don’t fret. We’re here to help. Last commonly seen in the ’90s, an anorak is a hooded jacket that’s typically waterproof and keeps you dry during spring showers. Its lightweight nature makes it a perfect transitional piece that can be added to almost any outfit. Anoraks come in many different silhouettes: super-long styles, boasting oodles of pockets, cinched wrists, made of vinyl, featuring a punchy print, etc. Get ready to experience all of the above in terms of 2018 outerwear.

4. Jazzed-Up Denim

Okay, this trend has been around for a while and isn’t always the most fashionable, but we’re loving how denim will be dressed up this year. From flared pairs embellished with fringe and sequins to jeans starring rips, florals and shimmering fabrics to denim jackets with intense fading and patches, these head-to-toe styles are sure to please everyone’s fashion sense. When visually merchandising these pieces, we recommend pairing them with basics tops and accessories so that they may be the star of the show.

5. Saturated Color Palettes

This spring is all about amping up an ensemble with hints of vivid neons or going full-on bold with saturated color blocking. This trend can take your customers from work with solid camisoles, orange cardigans and color-packed bags to the weekend—think striking heels and colorful skinny jeans—and everything in-between. Even better, sprinkling bold colors throughout your store is a great way to add interest and differentiation to your inventory.

6. Pastels

“Wait, neon colors and pastels are both in style for spring?” We were asking that too. It looks as if 2016’s Pantone colors of the year and all their mellow friends are back, as the runways were recently starring muted pinks, toned-down mints, baby blues and soft yellows. Okay, so 2018 isn’t all about amping up your look; it’s also toning it down too. We love the balance of hues we’ll see in stores and recommend that your boutique reflect these color trends too!

7. Transparencies

While see-through panels won’t be a look to rock at work, transparent and mesh fabrics are totally wearable. Giving a nod to the 90s, we love seeing this crazy play out in sleeves, asymmetrical panels on tops and ankle-grazing skirts. To put this trend in your store, search for pieces starring organza, lace, chiffon, tool, mesh and super-fine versions fabrics you’d normally buy, like cotton or silk. Perfect for layering, these pieces are easy to customize to fit your customers’ varied tastes.

8. Utilitarian

This is a look we see it often, yet we never get tired of seeing. And even better, it’s easier than you think to stock your store’s racks with military-inspired pieces. Olive green jacket, camo print tees, edgy ankle boots in black or brown are great ways to add trend points to your boutique without having to worry that they won’t sell well. Pair these pieces with more feminine styles for a balanced, fashion-forward look.

What’s your favorite up-and-coming trend? What do you plan to add to your inventory?
