8 Autumn Essentials You Need in Your Store

Stock up for fall with these essentials!

The days are shrinking. The nights are growing cooler. You know that this can only mean one thing: fall is almost here. And with summer winding down quickly, now is the time to do your shopping and buying for autumn clothing. The trends will come and go, but style staples are for easy pairing, balancing outfits, and reaching for when you just don’t know what to wear that day. Here are eight go-to essentials you need in your inventory.

1. Beanies

We recommend carrying a variety or at least two silhouettes of beanies: chic, French-inspired beret knits in black and slouchy, perfect-for-hipsters beanies in fun colors.

2. Infinity scarves

If you don’t know what an infinity scarf is, it’s simply a single piece of fabric, in a loop, with no ends. You’ll find them in a wide variety of sizes, fabrics, and colors. They’ve been popular the past few years because of they’re so easy to style, add warmth to an outfit and can pair well with a lot of other styles. And best of all? Your customers can get creative by wearing larger infinity scarves in multiple ways, like as a headscarf, wrapped multiple times to block out wind, as a makeshift vest and much more. We highly recommend showing the versatility of infinity scarves on your mannequins this autumn!

3. Crew-neck tees

No matter what climate you and your customers live in, there’s a good chance they don’t need to be bundled up 100% of the time and layering is key when it comes to fantastic fall fashion. A basic t-shirt looks perfectly balanced under a bulky infinity scarf and trendy cardigan — or alongside dark denim and an eye-catching silver belt complete with faux leather tassels. We suggest purchasing casual t-shirts in a range of sizes, colors and fabric blends. Try 100% pre-shrunk cotton, soft Pima cotton and cotton-spandex blends for maximum comfort and durability.

4. Cardigans

Cardigans are the epitome of versatile cozy layers, and that’s why we love them for fall. We love how we can dress them up to wear to the office or dress them down for date nights with significant others or casual weekends with friends. From chic, shin-skimming black cardis and preppy, varsity striped sweaters to chunky, grandma-inspired knit outer layers, there’s a wide range of cardigans you can style and offer in your boutique.

5. Dark-wash denim

A classic staple that should be in every stylista’s wardrobe. A comfortable piece to wear no matter the season. Yes, we are talking about dark denim. Gem and neutral tones are fall’s favorite palette, and they pair perfectly with indigo jeans. Because of recent denim trends, don’t be afraid to carry more than just skinny jeans! Offer your customers a wider range to choose from, like shelves full of flared legs, boot cuts, light washes, and cropped cuts.

6. Belts

Where there’s denim, there must be belts! Belts do more than just hold up your pants when you’re on the go; they add a touch of personality to a look. You can grab the always-in, braided skinny belts for your store. You can stock up on neutral-hued accessories and feel optimistic about them selling. But what’s in for fall and winter 2018? Two words: Western fabulous. — think tarnished-looking silver, larger-than-life buckles, leather, faux leather, and bling.

7. Cozy socks

There are many avenues you could go (or slide!) down when buying socks: thin trouser socks for wearing with loafers or oxfords, thick boot socks for making cold-weather boots fit just right, ruffled ankle socks for adding feminine pizzazz to any ensemble… we could go on and on. Because autumn’s temperatures and precipitation can be a rollercoaster, we think all types of socks belong in your fall inventory.

8. Boots

Last but not least, autumn’s bone-chilling winds, dustings of snow and abundant puddles calls for the appropriate
footwear: boots! Two trends we’re seeing in 2018 that are worthy of carrying in your store are combat boots and ’80sinspired styles. We are happy to report that edgy, military-like boots are still in style. We love creating contrast with these dark-hued pairs with more feminine blouses or going full-on rebel with a faux leather jacket. As for ’80s-like boots, you’ll know them when you see them — and you’ll fall in love. They’re ankle booties characterized by a slouchy fit around the ankle and a sharp stiletto heel. You can find them in shiny, white patent leather, sassy velvet or suede, or a durable synthetic material that better stands the test of time. Both boot styles can be dressed up or down, and we highly recommend you place them in your store’s front window to draw in the boot lovers!
